Sergej is a researcher at Sheffield University Management School who focuses on the broad areas of business and society. He is interested in the activities and strategies of non-profit and non-governmental organisations and firms vis-à-vis societal issues and related practices. He is particularly interested in and has studied human service organisations, specifically those that engage in welfare and/or health services. His work has been published in Sociology, Nonprofit Voluntary Sector Quarterly, Socio-Economic Review, Voluntas, and Europe-Asia Studies.

Dr Svitlana Krasynska
Researcher
Svitlana is a social scientist, focusing her interdisciplinary research on the various aspects of civil society and informal civic engagement in Ukraine. Following two decades of executive, consulting, and research experience in the nonprofit sector and upon defending her PhD, Svitlana has held various research fellowships at Harvard University and taught at Boston University. She is the author and scholarly editor of several publications on civil society and democratization, including her co-edited volume, The Nonprofit Sector in Eastern Europe, Russia and Central Asia: Civil Society Advances and Challenges (2018) and her single-author research monograph, Self-Organization: The Power and Limits of Ukraine’s Informal Civil Society (in press). Svitlana's research looks at the manifestations, roots, and impact of Ukraine’s informal civil society and civic organizations, as well as on women’s issues and gender equality in Ukraine. Currently, Svitlana manages the MIT-Ukraine Program and is an Associate at the Harvard Ukrainian Research Institute (HURI). She is also engaged in formal and informal civil society initiatives that provide war relief, support, and advocacy for Ukraine.
